Programme Description

The diploma prepares you for a career as a technologist in a medical laboratory. You will learn how to perform laboratory tests and analysis on human blood, bodily fluids and tissues to assist doctors in diagnosing and managing diseases. This programme will equip you with extensive theoretical knowledge and relevant practical skills to meet the needs of the modern medical industry.

	Programme Aims

	•	To produce competent professionals who contribute to the field of laboratory medicine, which in turn helps further quality healthcare provisions.
	•	To provide a springboard for those aspiring to become clinical scientists, research scientists or academicians by encouraging them to further their studies with a Bachelor's degree in biomedical science, forensic science and, thereafter, a Masters degree or a PhD in related disciplines.

Career Prospects

Medical laboratory technologists can work in public or private hospital laboratories, private clinical laboratories, public health laboratories, universities and research institutions. The support services of medical laboratory technologists are indispensable to the healthcare industry.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

DIPLOMA
Candidates must meet ONE of the following requirements:
SPM (with 3 credits) in any subjects or other equivalent qualifications.
•	For Occupational Therapy programme, a credit in Science and a pass in Mathematics, Bahasa Malaysia and English is required.
•	For the MLT programme, a credit in Mathematics and Science and a pass in Bahasa Malaysia and English is required or pass UEC with 1B and minimum ‘C’ for Science, Mathematics, Bahasa Malaysia and English.
•	For the Pharmacy programme, a credit in Mathematics, Science and English is required.
•	For the Physiotherapy programme, a credit in Science or Sport Science is required an a pass in Bahasa Malaysia and English.
•	For Nursing, Occupational Therapy and Physiotherapy programmes, candidates should not have any disabilities that may affect their studies and future employment.
•	For Nursing programme, 5 credit inclusive of Mathematics and Science, a pass in Bahasa Malaysia and English is required.
